DCS Cleantech Oy has signed a distribution agreement with BPOWER a.s., the ORC specialist of the German BITZER Group. DCS now offers BPOWER’s ElectraTherm and Triogen ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) units in Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, with feasibility studies, project delivery and service.

An ORC unit works like a steam turbine, but with an organic working fluid that boils at a much lower temperature than water. It generates electricity from hot water from about 85 °C, from steam and from exhaust gas from 350 °C – heat that many plants today dump to air through coolers. The loop is closed and burns no fuel, so the ORC adds no emissions on site.

Four product groups

  • Hot-water ORC: ElectraTherm Power+ PM75 and PM150 for 65–150 °C hot water, up to 125 kWe per unit at 50 Hz.
  • Flue-gas ORC: Triogen e-box for exhaust gas at 350–530 °C, 50–180 kWe net at up to 18.2 % net efficiency.
  • Cooling-to-power: ElectraTherm Active Cooler AC800 cools up to 800 kW of engine or process heat and generates up to 75 kWe.
  • Heat rejection and absorption cooling: dry coolers sized for each ORC, and absorption chillers for power, heat and cooling from one heat source.

Typical sites are biogas and wastewater treatment plants, landfill and gas engines, CHP plants, biomass and district-heating boilers, food processing and rendering plants, industrial cooling loops and gas-turbine plants.

“Many plants in the Nordic and Baltic countries cool away heat every day that could cover part of their own electricity use. With BPOWER we can now offer proven ORC technology from the BITZER Group, delivered by a local team that has worked with hot, dirty gas for more than 40 years,” says Tapani Stipa, Managing Director of DCS Cleantech.

How a project starts

A project starts with the heat-source data: medium, temperature, flow and annual operating hours. DCS gives a preliminary technical and price estimate. A paid on-site measurement and feasibility study then provides a budget quotation and a payback model before the investment decision. Typical lead time is 6–9 months plus 2–4 weeks of commissioning.
