In many processes a single fan keeps production running – or keeps the process in a safe state. There is often no standby unit, so every unplanned stop is costly. DCS Cleantech designs and builds fans for these duties: for wet and corrosive gases, hot gases and abrasive dust – typically to replace an original fan whose reliability has not been sufficient.
Typical duties
- Reactor and main gas blowers for wet, corrosive gases
- Process flue gas and process heating fans for hot gases
- Combustion air fans in corrosive and humid process areas
- Dust removal and pressure control fans whose task is to keep the process in a safe state
- Scrubber fans for wet exhaust gas containing sulphur and oily residues
- Fans for hot, abrasive gas carrying sand or other hard particles
Built to replace – on the original footprint
Most of these fans replace an original unit that has not met the requirements for reliability, serviceability or control range. We adapt the new fan to the existing foundation, ducting and space – including the original concrete bed – so that installation on site is quick. Where space is tight, a silencer integrated into the inlet box reduces noise without adding length.
Designed for the process, not just the duty point
- Wet and corrosive gas: special materials such as duplex and stainless steels, a robust impeller, washing connections and continuous water flushing at the inlet to keep the impeller clean; on-line cleaning systems for scrubber fans.
- Hot gas: heat-resistant materials in all gas-wetted parts.
- Abrasive gas: impeller and shroud coated with wear-resistant material, wear-resistant steels and carbide coatings.
- Harsh surroundings: surface treatments for corrosive process areas (ISO 12944, up to category C5-M) and equipment that starts at any time, also in hard frost.
- Dynamic operation: structures dimensioned for continuous fast accelerations and decelerations and, where needed, manufacturing tolerances tighter than API 673.
- Explosive atmospheres: ATEX-compliant designs.
API 673 as the baseline
Fans for critical process duties are designed and built in accordance with API 673, the standard for centrifugal fans in the petroleum, chemical and gas industries. Where the process calls for it, we go further – for example with tighter manufacturing tolerances or purpose-made improvements agreed with the customer. Drive powers extend up to the megawatt class.
Test-run in the workshop, installed quickly on site
Large fans are assembled and test-run as a complete unit in our workshop in Voikkaa. For delivery they are split into modules, each with its own lifting and transport plan and integrated lifting points. Installation is safe and quick, and the geometry verified in the workshop is preserved. On request we deliver the fan installed on site.
Surface treatments and materials
Surface treatments include blast cleaning, ISO 12944 wet painting, Halar (ECTFE) coating, hardfacing and electrolytic polishing. Materials range from structural steels S235 and S355 to stainless and duplex steels, Hardox wear-resistant steels and carbide wear coatings.
Talk to us
If a critical fan limits the availability of your process, send us its data and operating history, and we will propose a replacement that fits the existing installation. Read also: The advantages of duplex fans.
